How to Make Events More Accessible

✅ Before the Event

  • Ask About Access Needs Early
    When people register, include a space for them to request adjustments (e.g., captions, quiet spaces, step-free access).
  • Choose an Accessible Venue
    Check for step-free access, accessible toilets, hearing loops and quiet areas for neurodivergent attendees.
  • Make Digital Events Inclusive
    Ensure platforms work with screen readers, offer live captions and allow different ways to interact (e.g., chat, voice, or video).
  • Provide Clear Information
    Share event details in multiple formats (e.g., email, Easy Read, or video).

  • Use Inclusive Communication
    Speak clearly, use plain language and describe any visuals you share.
  • Offer Captions & BSL Interpretation
    Live captioning and sign language interpreters help make content accessible.
  • Be Flexible
    Allow for breaks, reduce background noise and offer different ways for people to participate.

📢 After the Event

  • Share Accessible Resources
    Provide recordings with captions, transcripts and slides with alt text.
  • Ask for Feedback
    Find out what worked well and what could be improved for next time.
